BA (Hons) Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
The BA (Hons) Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) programme is for therapists, healthcare or social care practitioners in professional, part-time or voluntary employment. It is designed to be studied online and consists of two parts as detailed below. If you have a degree then you can apply to enter directly into Part 2 of the programme. The programme modules are designed to help you build on your previous studies and facilitate your personal and professional development. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is the preferred NHS therapeutic intervention and therefore a qualification at Honours degree level evidences that you have studied the subject at advanced practitioner level.

BA CBT: For current practitioners that have a diploma qualification they can apply to enrol on the BA CBT which consists of the following 4 modules: CBT - Current Tools and Techniques, Coaching for Personal and Professional Development, CBT - Drugs and Alcohol Issues and Mentoring for Personal and professional Development. BA (Hons) CBT: For current practitioners that have a BA or BSc they can enrol on Part 2 of the BA (Hons) CBT which consists of the four following modules: Realising Opportunities for Professional Development, Professional Organisational CBT Practice Development, Research Methods for the Workplace and Work-based Honours Project. PART 1: BA (HONS) CBT
Module 1: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy: Current Tools & Techniques (30 Credits)
This module is designed to build on the student’s knowledge of CBT tools and techniques by expanding
and developing this knowledge with the current understanding of CBT therapy, models, process and
skills: specifically tools and techniques within the context of a supportive relationship to clients with
the student operating within a professional code of ethics and practice. This module incorporates
opportunities to further develop self-awareness facilitated by the online tutor.
Module 2: Coaching for Personal & Professional Development (30 Credits)
This module is designed to build on and enhance the therapeutic practitioner’s knowledge by adding
‘Coaching’, a complimentary therapeutic intervention. It will assist with facilitating integration of coaching
theory, models, processes, skills and ethical practice within the context of a working alliance with clients with
the student operating within a professional code of ethics and practice. Emphasis is on further development
of self-awareness regarding personal and professional development within a coaching context.
Module 3: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – Drugs & Alcohol Issues (30 Credits)
This module is designed to build on the student’s knowledge of CBT providing an enhanced understanding of CBT therapy models, process, skills and practice within the context of a supportive and therapeutic relationship to clients who have drugs and / or alcohol issues with the practitioner operating within a professional code of ethics and practice. Emphasis is on self-awareness and development,
critical reflection and academic supervision throughout the module.
Module 4: Mentoring for Professional Development (30 Credits)
This module is designed to build on and enhance the student’s practitioner knowledge by adding
‘Mentoring for professional development’, a complimentary development intervention. This will assist
the student with helping clients when they come to the action phases of professional development.
Emphasis is on further developing self- awareness, professional development and critical reflection to
facilitate ‘New Knowledge’ that will inform mentoring interventions throughout the module.

PART 2: BA (HONS) CBT
Module 1: Realising Opportunities and Professional Development (20 Credits)
This module will encourage students to plan their career and aspirations , including realistic promotion opportunities and the learning activities that would facilitate attainment of promotion.
Module 2: Professional Organisational CBT Practice Development (40 Credits)
The content of this module will be determined by the student’s own specific organisational CBT practice development requirements and if appropriate the needs of the organisation. This approach will facilitate the student the opportunity to develop organisational development within CBT practice.
Module 3: Research Methods for the Work Place (20 Credits)
This module seeks to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to understand and apply existing research and to assist students in planning a reliable new research project applicable to their workplace.
Module 4: Work Based Honours Project (40 Credits)
This module allows the practitioner to undertake an in-depth study of a particular area of work activity, and demonstrates a critical understanding of the theory underpinning it. The student is expected to demonstrate an ability to conduct supervised research and produce a written report (10,000 words).
