BA Counselling (Top up)

The BA Counselling (Top Up) programme is for counsellors, healthcare or social care practitioners that have graduated with a Diploma in Clinical and Pastoral Counselling (Dip CPC) from the Institute of Counselling. It is designed to be studied online and consists of two modules that will build on your previous Dip CPC studies and enhance your personal and professional development. This is an excellent opportunity for you to study and graduate with a degree in your preferred therapeutic intervention. A qualification at degree level evidences that you have graduate status in the counselling field which enhances your CV and career prospects.

Students are permitted by the University to RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) up to 50%, i.e. 60 credits of previous relevant academic study from the Diploma in Clinical and Pastoral Counselling course. Modules 1 and 2 below make up the remaining 60 credits of the required 120 credits for the BA Counselling (Top Up) programme.

Module 1: Becoming a Professional: Personal and Professional Development (20 Credits)

This work based learning module is intended to support students to progress both personally and professionally by looking forward to attaining the degree. It will encourage and motivate students to recognise what way they best learn and to help develop professional and diligent behaviours and attributes which complement graduateness.

Module 2: Development of Work Based Practice and Practices (40 Credits)

This module allows the opportunity to study an area of professional practice through the compilation and implementation of a negotiated learning plan. The module aims to support professional development, vision and problem solving abilities. The content of the module will be determined by the students’ own specific learning requirements and perhaps the needs of their organisation. The module promotes a flexible approach to continuous professional development.
